''Contagion/Bio Slime'' Will be at the Cannes 2011 market! Wish us luck. We still have plenty of territories to sell. We have a new poster that is sporting the Bio Slime title. Otherwise I am still getting great reviews for my movie ''Killjoy 3''. I will try to get those up next week. In other news, I am still writing and preparing screenplays. I will keep you up to date as things progress!

The American Film Market ended yesterday. That was a hell of a week. We got a lot of interest in my movie "Contagion" aka "Bio Slime". Now it becomes a waiting game. Usually the deals are made in the months following a market. So I'll keep my fingers crossed! Otherwise it was a great experience for me to meet with and talk to a variety of filmmakers in the business of selling and marketing movies.
It is really a very different thing than speaking with other writers, directors and artists. With the latter we tend to talk about what inspires us, and what excites us on a visceral level. With the former it is about how the film will be presented, who is the audience, what is the market, and what kind of money can it generate. All very important things, because at the end of the day, I do want my film to be seen.
I know; not very romantic, but filmmaking isn’t a romantic business despite being based on the arts. In fact it’s pretty damn ugly at times. It can get dirty. It is often exhausting and thankless. I must be crazy, because I still love it!

CONTAGION is at the AFM!
I am hanging out at Forward Motion's office at the Lowes Hotel in Santa Monica California. Forward Motion Entertainment is handling the sales. I'll tell you this, parking is terrible! I have no idea what I will do about that in the coming days.

But I will certainly be talking to as many people as possible. I am excited to meet the buyers and sellers. This is the first time that I will experience the American Film market in Depth. But I better make the most of it. I have to meet with as many producers as possible.

My mission is also to try to get a good handle on what the market is doing. Of course it will change next time around, but knowing the trend is valuable.

I have already met some familiar faces (Don't worry, I won't mention names), and I think that I will run into more friends by the week's end.

Also, welcome to the new site. We are still developing it, but thanks to Eric of RoadBlock design!

‘’Contagion’’ will be going to Japan! The cover art is pretty wild, I have to admit. At first I was a little confused, but I have learned not to argue with Japanese marketing. They know what they’re doing. If you look closely, there are some elements that have something to do with the film. It looks very pretty, but it does not lie.

The title, on the other hand, is a real head scratcher. According to one of my Japanese friends, the title in Japan is ‘’Species 7’’. Really? What happened to Species 4, 5, and 6? My previous titles have not fared better. ‘’Magus’’ changed to ‘’Dark Warrior’’ and featured the sexy femme fatale, Sen on the cover. Apparently a beautiful woman in a black leather miniskirt has more attraction than the central character. Come to think of it, that’s hard to argue against. I’m sure the Magus would understand. And finally, my first film went from the title of ‘’Blood Gnome’’ to ‘’Baby Victim’’. Go figure!

This website is now being updated. Soon it will have a new look and a little more color! Also, I am now getting ready for the AFM. I will be working on Contagion as well as developing new scripts. More later!

I have also just sent a screener of "Contagion" to the Chicago Horror film festival. So far so good. Nothing else really earth shattering.
I am busy writing my new SciFi movie. I will give details on that later. The post production on Killjoy 3 is coming along well. It will have a poster soon. I expect it to be available in November.
And, I am still working on Contagion. It is going well, but the progress is slow, as I am a one man band. But I have many irons in the fire! Stay tuned!

Yes, it is another Sunday and I am working! Will it never end?
Tomorrow I will be submitting my movie ''Contagion" to the CINENASTY film festival in France. I have also submitted to Shriekfest and Toronto After Dark. I will keep you updated as to the results!

I'm firing up the website again. It has been a long time since I have written on this site. What has happened since? I'll just give you a little sample. I have shot and finished my first independently produced film. It is ''Bio Slime''. It is also being marketed as ''John Lechago's Contagion". So look out for that.

I have also written and directed a film in China for Fullmoon Pictures. It is ''Killjoy 3''. I am in the middle of post production on that one. I expect it to be released sometime in the fall.

Of course, I am working on a few other things as well. Not too many details now, but I will keep you posted!

Contagion won best special effects!
Contagion recently screened at the Chicago Horror Film Festival, where it was nominated for best picture, actor, director and special effects. It won for best special effects.
